Newport Mental Health’s Rhode Island Outreach (RIO) teams are designed to proactively and quickly respond to community behavioral health crises with the aim of assessing and de-escalating the situation and then developing a safety plan to connect individuals to services. The goal is to avoid unnecessary hospitalizations and criminal justice involvement.
Rhode Island Outreach is a multi-faceted new program which not only sends behavioral health response teams directly to people experiencing a mental health crisis; the team also works in the community to help prevent mental health crises before they happen.
